The Place du Parliament is a large city square in the heart of Bordeaux, surrounded by beautiful Louis XV buildings from the 18thcentury. Formerly the site of the Royal Market, it is today a busy square surrounded by restaurants and cafes. The centerpiece is an ornate Second Empire fountain designed in Neo-Baroque style by Louis-Michel Garros, with 4 gargoyles atop which stand 4 female busts. The edifices around the square have a commercial ground floor, then 2 miscellaneous floors, and a final floor on top for nobility. The façades are richly ornamented, with mascarons (masks) on the keystones of window arches.
