Piazza Cavour is Como's main square, framed by Lake Como along its north-western edge. The town's principal port from the 14thcentury, it was converted into the charming urban square it is today in the 19thcentury. To its west is the historic Hotel Metropole Suisse from 1846 with its rationalist façade by Terragni, while across the square are Italianate buildings with cafes and restaurants.
