Dedicated to Saint Fidelis of Como, the Basilica of San Fedele was built in 1120, over a previous church from the 7thcentury dedicated to Saint Euphemia. The simple Romanesque façade, restored in 1914, features a large circular rose window, and a bell tower to one side. The main cast-iron portal has a fresco of Jesus Master of Elena Mazzeri on the lunette above the entrance, while the Portal of the Dragon to the right of the apse features intriguing medieval bas-reliefs. The interiors feature 3 naves and 3 apses, with architectural details in Renaissance and Baroque styles.

The 14thcentury high altar has a marble sarcophagus in its ark with the relics of Saint Martyr Fedele. The floor has 18thcentury mosaics from the Venetian School. The first chapel on the right is noted for a triptych by Giovanni Andrea De Magistris of Mary with Infant Jesus between Saints Sebastian and Rocco, and stucco work on the ceiling.

The chapel of the Crucifix in the right transept has a marble altar with a papier-mâché Crucifix, above which is Isidoro Bianchi's fresco of 3 circles depicting the Glory of Paradise - the Trinity, Saint Peter and other saints in the first; saints, bishops and popes in the second; and angels and archangels in the third. Also there are four paintings by Carlo Carlone depicting scenes from the Passion of Jesus at the end of the south aisle.

The left transept has the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with Gaffuri's gilded wooden statue of Mary, and frescoes of the Assumption of the Virgin on the basin by Francesco Carpano and Domenico Caresana. The apsidal basin has frescoes of the Martyrdom of St. Fedele by Guglielmo Beltrami. The sides of the altarpiece have 17thcentury frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Mary - Marriage of the Virgin, Nativity, Annunciation to the Shepherds, and the Adoration of the Magi.

Older works in the church are the 13th– 14thcentury frescoes in the ambulatory, and the 8thcentury fonts on top of lion sculptures.
