Dating back to 1215, the Palazzo Broletto di Como served as the seat of the Municipality of Como in the Middle Ages. Built in Romanesque-Gothic style, it has Renaissance elements from the 15thcentury. The façade in polychrome marble (red, white and grey) is flanked by the ashlar clock tower on one side and the Cathedral on the other. In fact, for the extension of the Cathedral in the 15th– 16thcentury, the block had to be split into 2 parts - Broletto (west side) and Praetorian (east side). Used variously as a theatre and a store, it is now a conference hall and exhibition space.
