The Vitosha Mountain is a volcanic massif that stands to the southwest of Sofia and is a symbol of the city. The territory has been converted into a National Park, and is a popular retreat. At its highest point, it rises to 2290 metres at Cherni Vrah and the most popular starting destination in the Aleko area at 1810 metres is right below. Locals and tourists come here to enjoy adventure sports like alpining, skiing and hiking. The park is also a treat for nature explorers and conservationists with its rich flora and fauna. It has 2 biosphere reserves - Bistrishko Branishte and Torfeno Branishte.
