Kambanite or The Bells is a fascinating monument that lies 14 km away from central Sofia at the foot of the Vitosha Mountains. It was built in 1979 to commemorate the UNESCO Year of the Child under the flag for the Children's Peace Movement. Located in the International Children's Park of the World, the monument comprises four 37 metre high pylons oriented in the cardinal directions, with a spherical gap at the top symbolizing the world, with 7 bronze bells representing the continents. It is encircled by 2 semicircular concrete walls of 60 metre diameter containing over 95 bells from different countries and social organizations.
