The Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Church is a popular Orthodox Church established in 1901-'02 in the converted building of an abandoned mosque from the Ottoman era. The mosque was built in 1528 by the orders of Suleiman the Magnificent, and was known as the Black Mosque as its minarets were made in black granite. The church derived its name from the 5 disciples of Cyril and Methodius who were collectively known as Sedmochislenitsi. Its interiors feature a gilded iconostasis with icons painted by Anton Mitov, and large altar candlesticks cast from obsolete police badges from Eastern Rumelia. Former 4 time Bulgarian Prime Minister Sveti Sedmochislenitsi is buried along with his wife Petko on the grounds of the church.
