The National Museum of History in Sofia is the largest museum in Bulgaria, with over 700,000 items spanning from the 6th millennium BC to 1940s.

The National Museum of History in Sofia is the largest museum in Bulgaria, with over 700,000 items spanning from the 6th millennium BC to 1940s. The chronologically and thematically arranged collection is spread over various sections – Prehistory (6th – 2nd Millennium BC), The Bulgarian Lands from the End of the 6th Century BC to the 6th Century AD, The Middle Ages (7th – 14th Century), Ottoman Rule (1396 – 1878), and the Third Bulgarian Kingdom (1878 – 1946). There are special collections of ancient and medieval coins, and traditional folk costumes. Also of note are the Panagursko, Rogozensko and Letnishko treasures, discovered in a burial mound in the village of Duvanlii.
