Ta Som, Siem Reap

Ta Som is a small temple at Angkor built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father Dharanindravarman II.

Ta Som is a small temple at Angkor built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII to honor his father Dharanindravarman II. Typical of Bayon-style flat temples, the Ta Som has 3 layers of laterite walls enclosing the central cruciform sanctuary which is shrouded in a Ficus tree. Surrounded by a moat, the outer wall has 2 entrance gopuras (pavilions) with Bayon-style carved faces of the Lokesvara Boddhisattva in 4 directions. The ruins have been carefully conserved by the World Monuments Fund to make it safe for tourists.
