Built in 1695 by the Duke of Camastra to honor Viceroy Uzeda's contribution to Catania’s reconstruction after the 1693 earthquake, the Porta Uzeda is a monumental gate in the 16thcentury Charles V city walls. Located at the southern end of Piazza del Duomo, it connects the Palazzo del Seminario dei Chierici with the Cathedral of Sant'Agata. Constructed in Sicilian Baroque style, it is made of marble and lava stone from Mount Etna.
