Fontana dell'Amenano, Catania

The Fontana dell'Amenano is a monumental fountain at the southern end of the Piazza del Duomo, separating it from the Pescheria.

The Fontana dell'Amenano is a monumental fountain at the southern end of the Piazza del Duomo, separating it from the Pescheria. Created by Neapolitan sculptor Tito Angelini in 1867, the Carrara marble fountain depicts the underground Amenano river as a young man holding a cornucopia, standing on a pedestal with the coat-of-arms of Catania and a commemorative plaque. Water cascades down from the cornucopia, over the base and into the Amenano river under the square. The lava stone staircase behind the fountain leads to the Pescheria.
