Located in the former Campo Marzio station, the Railway Museum of Trieste is dedicated to the history of the railways of Friuli and Venezia Giulia. The building was built between 1901 and 1906 to designs by architect Robert Seelig, and has a huge collection of historical relics. The Art Nouveau main hall displays old photographs and memorabilia from the "golden age" of the Friulian railways. The corridor has exhibits of uniforms, various documents ranging from schedules to patterns of operation of locomotives, and the reconstruction of a ticket office from the early 20th century. Other rooms have displays such as platform diorama and the reconstruction of a stationmaster's office.
The 4 tracks showcase vintage locomotives, carriages and trams, some of which are still functional. Highlights include a German armored railway vehicle from the Second World War and antique equipment such as a water tank for steam trains and transit signals.
