Housed in an 18th century building that was once the Arsenal of Artillery, the Maritime Museum of Trieste showcases the seafaring history and culture of the city. Its courtyard has the Garden of the Anchors where visitors can see the cross-section of the hull and an anchor of the ship Elettra, aboard which Guglielmo Marconi set up his laboratory from where he send radio signals that lit up 2800 light bulbs of the Sydney City Hall 14,000 miles away. Also on display are various types of anchors from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century, and one of the 2 diesel-powered engines of the Ursus - one of the largest and oldest floating cranes which was used to build the battleships of the Austro-Hungarian navy. The other floors have model ships and fishing boats which sailed the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian Seas, as well as fishing equipment and gear.
