Molo Audace, Trieste

The Molo Audace is a 246 metre long pier that juts into the Gulf of Trieste, separating the San Giorgio basin from the San Giusto basin of the Porto Vecchio.

The Molo Audace is a 246 metre long pier that juts into the Gulf of Trieste, separating the San Giorgio basin from the San Giusto basin of the Porto Vecchio. After the sinking of the San Carlo ship in 1740 in the port of Trieste, it was used as a base for a new pier built in 1743-'51. On 3 November 1918, at the end of the First World War, the first ship of the Italian Navy to enter the port of Trieste and to dock at the San Carlo wharf was the destroyer Audace, after which the pier was named to commemorate the event. Today, the historic location is very popular with tourists for its spectacular views. It is a stone's throw from Piazza Unità d'Italia and Grand Canal.
