Citta Vecchia or Old Town Bari is the historical heart of the city, occupying the peninsula between the old port and new port. It retains its medieval urban layout of narrow streets in a maze, lined with historical attractions such as the Bari Cathedral, Basilica San Nicola, Castello Normanno-Svevo, Church of San Gregorio, Church of the Trinity, Archbishop's Palace and the Seminary Palace, Church of San Marco of Venice, Church of St. Teresa of Males, Church of San Michele, and Pinacoteca Provinciale. The Piazza Mercantile and Piazza del Ferrarese are open squares with sculptural works that serve as meeting points.
