Katuaq is the cultural epicentre of Nuuk, hosting concerts, art exhibitions, conferences, and other events including movie screenings. The Modernist building, designed by Schmidt-Hammer-Lassen of Aarhus, is an architectural marvel inspired by Greenlandic nature. The façade is draped with an undulating timber screen, with a strip of skylights at the top which are evocative of northern lights. The L-shaped building has a triangular layout that symbolizes an iceberg, and the white interiors represent the snow and ice of Greenland's landscapes. It has 2 halls – the large circular Hans Lynge Hall that is used for cinema, concerts, theater and meetings, and a smaller square hall for lectures and artistic events. The triangular cafe, Cafétuaq, often hosts rock concerts. The building also houses the Nordic Institute, Silamiut, Nuuk City Orchestra, a TV studio, Greenland Art School, and library.
