Euxinograd, Varna

The 19th century royal summer palace of Euxinograd has today become a presidential retreat and tourist resort.

The 19th century royal summer palace of Euxinograd has today become a presidential retreat and tourist resort. Located on the Black Sea coast 8 kilometres north of Varna, it is regarded as the epitome of post- liberation architecture in Bulgaria. Inspired by 18th century French châteaux, it features a high metal-clad mansard roof, figured brickwork, balconies and a clock tower. The Euxinograd palace has 3 levels - the first floor has the principal reception room, the second one has private apartments of royalty, and the third one is for the servants. It is decorated with mahogany and walnut wood furniture. A highlight of the building is the giant chandelier that was a gift from the House of Bourbon.

The palace is set in the midst of a sprawling 55 hectare park with manicured English and French gardens with sculptures, exotic trees, vineyards, and the Kestrichka Bara River which has 2 bridges across it. The winery on the complex produces some of the best wines and brandy in Bulgaria.
