Housed in a beautiful Neo-Renaissance style former school building by Petko Momchilov from the 19th century, the Varna Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Bulgaria, spread across an area 2150 square meters. It traces the history of the region from the prehistoric, Thracian, Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman periods through the medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine Empires, to Ottoman rule and the Bulgarian National Revival. Its highlight is the Gold of Varna exhibit, which dates back to 4600-4200 BCE. The Roman baths in Odessus and the Aladzha Monastery also fall under the purview of the museum.
