The Varna Aquarium is a popular public aquarium in the Sea Garden on the Black Sea coast. Home to over 140 marine species from across the globe, it showcases mollusks, actinides, crabs, periwinkles, freshwater fish, Mediterranean fish, tropical species, sharks, sting rays, mussels and algae.

There is also a special feature about the oceanography of the Black Sea and its history of research. The attached unit, Institute for Fish Resources, conducts research in the fields of plankton, hydrochemistry and marine microbiology. The institute has well maintained library with over 30,000 scientific books, including some rare books and maps from the 19th century.
