St. Anne's Church & Shandon Bells Tower, Cork

Standing on a hilltop in Shandon, the 18th century Church of Saint Anne is a landmark in Cork and one of the most visited tourist attractions in town.

Standing on a hilltop in Shandon, the 18th century Church of Saint Anne is a landmark in Cork and one of the most visited tourist attractions in town. Its highlight is the peal of 8 Shandon Bells in the Belfry, made famous by the Francis Sylvester Mahony song ' The Bells of Shandon'. Visitors can climb to the first floor and ring the bells themselves. Also of note are the 17th century stone baptismal font, and the 'Four Faced Liar' clock on the tower, which is topped by a golden salmon weathervane. Climb up the 130 steps to the balcony at the top for gorgeous views of Cork and Lee River.
