The Cork Public Museum is mainly dedicated to the history and archaeology of the Cork area. It is housed in a 19th century Georgian building within Fitzgerald Park that was once home to the Beamish family and known as 'The Shrubberies'. The museum mainly exhibits artifacts that have been loaned from the National Museum, along with some of the local historical objects. On display are Iron Age cork helmet horns, Ireland’s oldest pick and shovel from the Bronze Age, and the Garryduff Gold Bird. There are some international exhibits such as historical finds from Egypt, Rome and Greece, and ethnographic collection of native artefacts from various places such as Australia, Africa, New Guinea and the South Sea Islands.
