Achilleion is a 19th century summer palace built in Gastouri by Empress Elisabeth or "Sisi" of Austria that reflects her love for classical Greece. Designed on the theme of Greek mythical hero Achilles, it is modeled as a palace in the mythical Scheria, where Phaeacians lived according to Homer's Odyssey.

Highlights include the mural of Trial of Christ on the ceiling of the catholic chapel, Peristyle of the Muses around the garden, busts of poets and philosophers, painting of 'Odysseus and Naussica on Scheria', portrait of Kaiser William II, portrait of Sisi, and several works depicting Achilles. The beautiful gardens also hold several works of art such as Ernst Herter's Dying Achilles, statues of Zeus and Hera, and other sculptures.
