The Museu de Arte de São Paulo has a collection of Western art that is unparalleled in Latin America. The modern glass and concrete building by Lina Bo Bardi is lifted 8 metres off the ground, supported by 4 red concrete pillars connected by 2 huge beams. It has a section underground as well. Its collection of 8000 works comprises Brazilian art, prints and drawings, African and Asian art, antiquities, decorative arts, engravings, and a great assortment of European art. Highlights include Van Gogh’s The Student, Raffaello’s Resurrection of Christ, Botticelli’s Virgin and Child with the Infant St. John the Baptist, Monet’s Boating on the River Epte, Renoir’s Pink and Blue, and Picasso’s Portrait of Suzanne Bloch.
