The Pinacoteca do Estado houses an important collection of Brazilian art from the 19th century onwards.

The Pinacoteca do Estado houses an important collection of Brazilian art from the 19th century onwards. Housed in a neo-classical building designed by Ramos de Azevedo and Domiziano Rossi, it exhibits several iconic Brazilian Modernist pieces including works by Antônio Parreiras, Portinari and Di Cavalcanti. The Resistance Memorial on the ground floor is dedicated to the resistance against political repression during the Brazilian military dictatorship.
