The New England Aquarium on Boston Harbor's Central Wharf is home to over 20,000 marine animals across 600 species.

The New England Aquarium on Boston Harbor's Central Wharf is home to over 20,000 marine animals across 600 species. It is a great destination for kids and families, with various programs to learn about the different animals kept here. The central exhibit is the Giant Ocean Tank, which was once the largest circular ocean tank in the world. It recreates a Caribbean coral reef, with 2000 animals including bonnethead sharks, stingrays, eels, barracuda, sea turtles, and smaller colorful fishes. The spiral walkway that winds around it has windows that offer views from every angle. The penguin exhibit has several artificial rock island with African penguins, rockhopper penguins, and little blue penguins from Australia and New Zealand.

There are smaller exhibits with species from different climatic zones and ecosystems from around the world, such as the Temperate Gallery, Freshwater Gallery, Edge of the Sea tide pool with New England tide pool species, Northern Waters of the World Gallery, Tropical Gallery, Olympic Coast, Gulf of Maine, and Yawkey Coral Reef. The west wing has an 'Amazing Jellies' exhibit with sea jellies from around the world.

The New Balance Foundation Marine Mammal Center has Northern fur seals and California sea lions which participate in daily training sessions that are open to public. The New England Aquarium has other programs such as animal feedings, live animal presentations, and training sessions which provide further insights into animal behavior.
