St Martin's Church is the first church founded in England, the oldest parish church in continuous use, and the oldest church in the English-speaking world. Used by Christian Frankish Queen Bertha as a private chapel in the 6th century, it became Augustine's headquarters when he came to Kent to convert the Anglo-Saxons. The churchyard contains the graves of many notable local families and well-known people. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
