The Beaux Arts McKim Building houses the research collection, with over 1.7 million rare books and manuscripts. It has monumental inscriptions in the entablature on the fa?ades, and important murals in the Abbey Room, Sargent Gallery and Chavannes Gallery. The adjacent Johnson Building is a modernist structure that houses the circulating collection. Free hour long tours on the art and architecture of the premises are offered to visitors by volunteer guides.
