The Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park has over 40 kilometres of cycling tracks set in 250 hectares of native bush. It offers breathtaking views over Wellington from the summit at a height of 412 metres. Trails are graded as beginner, easy, intermediate, advanced, expert, extreme, and 4WD. The 12 kilometre long Grand Loop is a comprehensive route, offering panoramic views extending from Kapiti Island in the north to the Kaikoura Ranges in the south.
