An iconic symbol of the city, the Wellington Cable Car is a 115 year old funicular railway that runs uphill from Lambton Quay to Kelburn, stopping at Clifton, Talavera, and Salamanca. Cars depart every 10 minutes, rising 120 metres over a length of 612 metres in 5 minutes. The Cable Car Museum in the original winding house in Kelburn throws light on the history of the cable car and its operating mechanism. The ascending cars go past The Terrace, Kelburn Park, and Victoria University. At the top is the superb Wellington Botanic Garden, which is one of the top attractions in the city. You can also get great panoramic views from here.
