Built in 1915-'22 as part of the modernization of the postal services, the Edificio de Correos y Telégrafos on Plaza del Ayuntamiento is a breathtakingly beautiful building in eclectic style. Designed by Miguel Ángel Navarro, it combines Classical, Modernisme and Baroque elements.
The main entrance in the centre is flanked by double Ionic columns surmounted by a semi-circular arch with allegorical figures representing the five continents on the tympanum. At the top is a clock, while the corners of the section have 3 angels each with letters and telegraphic symbols, along with a ship and a train representing communications by sea and land. The building is crowned by the replica of a metal telecommunications tower.
The interiors are also worth seeing, with a two-storey main hall topped with an elliptic glass dome.
