The Greenkloof Nature Reserve in the Fountains Valley was established in 1895 as South Africa’s first nature sanctuary. The 600 hectare game reserve is home to various species such as zebra, blesbok, impala, kudu, blue wildebeest, red hartebeest, giraffe, jackal, duiker, rock hyrax sable, and ostrich, along with 120 species of bird. The 20 kilometre cycling trail that goes through the park is one of the best mountain bike paths in South Africa. The reserve has 4x4 routes, horse-riding tracks, and a 5 kilometre car route that offers game views.
