Located near the Nikitari village 20 kms to the west of Nicosia, the Panagia Asinou Church has a breathtaking interior that belies its simple façade.

Located near the Nikitari village 20 kms to the west of Nicosia, the Panagia Asinou Church has a breathtaking interior that belies its simple façade. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of 'Painted Churches in the Troodos Region', recognized for bearing testimony to the Byzantine civilization at the time of the Comnenes, and presenting Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting in Cyprus. Built in 1099, it has 2 parts - the vaulted nave and the narthex with 2 semi-circular apses. Magnificent 12th – 17th century frescoes feature on all walls.
