Buyuk Han, which translates to 'Great Inn', is considered as the pinnacle of Cypriot architecture in Nicosia.
Buyuk Han, which translates to 'Great Inn', is considered as the pinnacle of Cypriot architecture in Nicosia. This traditional inn was constructed as a caravanserai in 1572 by Muzaffer Pasha, the first Ottoman Governor of Cyprus. Temporarily used by the British as a prison in the 19th century, and later as housing for the poor, the building was restored in 2003 and today has an information centre, antiques and craft shops, arts galleries, Turkish-Cypriot coffee shop, and a restaurant and traditional wine bar. The 2-storey stone building has a central courtyard with a mosque.
