Dominating over the city of Nelson from atop Pikimai Hill, the Christ Church Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral that serves as the principal church of the Diocese of Nelson. The English Gothic style church is 58 metres long and 27 metres wide, with a 35 metre high tower. The church owes its unusual color to its construction from ground marble mixed with plaster. The steps leading to the church are made of granite sourced from Tonga Beach. The church houses an organ made of 2500 pipes.
