The Église Saint-Maurice is a beautiful Hallekerque-style Brabant Gothic church in the historic centre of Lille that was founded in the 14th century and completed at the end of the 19th century. It has 5 naves, with an imposing spire in the middle. The central chapel is dedicated to Sainte-Barbe, patron saint of Lille artillerymen. The interiors have several paintings by Lille artists of the 17th and 18th centuries such as Le Jeune and the famous Watteau. Also of note are the Neo-Gothic furniture by Charles Buisine-Rigot, stained glass windows by Pierre Turpin, and the tomb of Charles Ferdinand d’Artois.
