The Hospice Comtesse in Lille was founded in 1236 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre as a hospital for the needy in the Hôtel de la Salle.

The Hospice Comtesse in Lille was founded in 1236 by Countess Jeanne de Flandre as a hospital for the needy in the Hôtel de la Salle. The historic building stands as a vestige of Lille’s history from the 13thto 18thcentury, documenting the changes in urban landscape, architecture, political life and cultural scene over the ages. The ground floor of the convent building has a recreated Flemish home from the 17th-18th century fully furnished with wood-carved furniture, tiles and ceramics, and a chapel, dispensary and medicinal herb garden. The dormitory showcases art works illustrating the history of Lille between the 16th century and the French Revolution.
