Alaska’s largest museum, the Anchorage Museum explores the history, ethnology, art and culture of the state.Its permanent collection comprises about 25,000 historic objects, 500,000 photographs, and a well-stocked library on Alaskan heritage. The Alaska Gallery presents the history and ethnology of the area through dioramas, tracing important events from early migration and Native American settlements, Russian settlers, gold rush to statehood, the Exxon-Valdez spill and later. The Art of the North is spread over 7 galleries, covering landscapes, drawings from early Alaskan expeditions, and Sydney Laurence's works. The Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center is dedicated to Alaska Native culture. The Imaginarium Discovery Center has interactive science exhibits for kids covering various concepts of energy, motion, surface tension, light, geography, and astronomy.
