Set on the upper level of St. Peter & Paul Bastion, the Upper Barrakka Gardens are a picturesque site offering stunning views over the Grand Harbour and the historic Three Cities. Laid out in the 17th - 18th century for the use of Knights of the Order of Saint John, they were open to public from the 19th century onwards following the end of the French occupation. It has terraced arches built in 1661 by Fra Flaminio Balbiani, garden follies, a statue of Sir Winston Churchill, and a café. You can also view the cannons that form the Saluting Battery on the waterfront. The gardens are linked to Valletta's ditch and the nearby Lascaris Wharf by the Barrakka Lift.
