Goat Island Sydney, Sydney

The Goat Island in Sydney Harbour is a short ferry ride away from Circular Quay.

The Goat Island in Sydney Harbour is a short ferry ride away from Circular Quay. It lies to the west of the Harbour Bridge between McMahons Point and Balmain, offering great views of Barangaroo and Balmain. Measuring 300 metres in the north-south direction and 180 metres in the east-west direction, the island has been variously used as a sandstone quarry, convict stockade, explosives storage depot, water police headquarters, fire station, boatyard and film set for the TV series Water Rats. The 2.5 hour Goat Island Heritage Tour on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the each month is the best way to explore the island. See the Queen's Magazine which was used to store gunpowder, the barracks, cooperage, kitchen, and a seat carved out of stone by Charles Anderson who was sentenced to be tied to the rock for 2 years.
