Housed in a restored mid-19thcentury sandstone warehouse, The Rocks Discovery Museum tells the story of The Rocks area of Sydney from the pre-European era when it was known as Warrane to the present day. The museum showcases archaeological artifacts and images from the waterfront area, and has interactive displays and installations that explore its history. The exhibition is chronologically divided into 4 parts - Warrane (pre-1788), Colony (1788–1820), Port (1820–1900), and Transformations (1900–present). The traditional custodians of the land were the Gadigal people, and the establishment of the English colony led to the settlement of sailors, whalers, and traders in the area.
