The Osaka Tenman-gu Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Heian Period scholar, poet and politician, Sugawara no Michizane who is revered as a god of learning. It is best known for hosting the festival of Tenjin Matsuri on 24-25 July each year during which the image of Michizane is paraded in a palanquin through the streets of the city in a festive procession accompanied by fireworks.
