The Pont Saint-Bénézet, better known as the Pont d'Avignon, is an iconic medieval bridge spanning the Rhône between Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and Avignon. Originally built in the 12th century, it was rebuilt several times before finally being abandoned in the 17th century. The bridge has been immortalized in the 15th century song 'Sur le Pont d'Avignon, On y danse, On y danse'. Only 4 of the 22 stone arches survive to this day. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Avignon, along with the Papal Palace and Episcopal Ensemble.
