The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, simply called the Domain, is one of the biggest Catholic pilgrimage sites in France built around the spots related to the Marian apparitions seen by Saint Bernadette. The grounds, spread over 51 hectares on the banks of the Gave de Pau, include the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Rosary Basilica, Basilica of St. Pius X, Church of St. Bernadette, Massabielle Grotto, and the Prairie with the Chapel of Adoration. The water from the spring here is believed to have miraculous healing properties, and is sipped by pilgrims. There are also piscines (pools) where they can take a dip.
