Housed in the northern part of the Palazzo d'Accursio skirting the Piazza del Nettuno, the Biblioteca Salaborsa is Bologna's main public library. It has a collection of over 300,000 books, along with newspapers, magazines, maps, and multimedia. The atrium has a transparent glass floor which offers a view into the archaeological excavations beneath the building. History enthusiasts can take a librarian-guided tour of the site under the Piazza Coperta, where ruins date back to the first hut settlements of the Villanovan civilization in the 7th century BC, through the Etruscan Felsina of 510 BC and the Roman Bononia founded in 189 BC.
