Tokugawa Art Museum and Garden, Nagoya
The Tokugawa Art Museum showcases the priceless heirloom collection of the Owari clan of the Tokugawa shogunate, containing over 12,000 items of cultural interest. On display are samurai armor and swords, Noh costumes and masks, Chinese and Japanese ceramics, daimyo tea utensils, lacquer furniture, scrolls, maps, and paintings from the Chinese Song and Yuan dynasties.
The Tokugawa Art Museum showcases the priceless heirloom collection of the Owari clan of the Tokugawa shogunate, containing over 12,000 items of cultural interest. On display are samurai armor and swords, Noh costumes and masks, Chinese and Japanese ceramics, daimyo tea utensils, lacquer furniture, scrolls, maps, and paintings from the Chinese Song and Yuan dynasties. Highlights of the collection are the 3 Heian era illustrated scrolls of Genji Monogatari Emaki or Tale of Genji from the 12thcentury.
Housed in the former feudal residence of the Owaris, the house is bordered by an exquisite Japanese garden with a pond, surrounded by waterfalls, promenades, tea houses, and bridges.
