Osu Kannon is a 14thcentury Shingon Buddhist temple dedicated to the Avalokitesvara Boddhisattva.

Osu Kannon is a 14thcentury Shingon Buddhist temple dedicated to the Avalokitesvara Boddhisattva. The temple has a wooden image of Kannon, and a massive red lantern in the main hall to which worshipers can tie small paper notes with . Below the temple is the Shinpukuji Library with 15,000 classic Japanese and Chinese texts, among which is the oldest hand-written copy of the Kojiki which traces the ancient mythological history of Japan. On the 18thof every month, a fair is set up on the temple ground, with 60 stalls selling souvenirs, clothes, antiques and miscellania.
