The Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux is dedicated to the Bayeux Tapestry, the embroidered cloth from the 11thcentury which illustrates the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England by William the Conqueror. The tapestry has been included in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register for presenting an account of life in the Middle Ages and documenting a historical event. The colossal 350 kg tapestry is 70 metres long and 0.5 metres wide, depicting 58 scenes of the invasion upto the Battle of Hastings. It is preserved in a controlled room in the museum.
