The Wasserkirche was originally built in the 10th century on an island in the Limmat River on the site where Saints Felix and Regula of the Theban legion were executed by the Romans. The current Gothic building dates back to 1486, but the stained glass windows of the choir were created in 1942 by Augusto Giacometti, depicting the life of Christ and lifecycle of man from birth to death. In 1632 the Wasserkirche Church opened with first public library, which was re-designed in Baroque style in 1717. Associated with the proliferation of Christianity in Zurich, the church is highly venerated.
