Et'hem Bay Mosque, Tirana

The Et'hem Bey Mosque in Tirana was built by Molla Bey and his some Haxhi Et'hem Bey in 1789-1823.

The Et'hem Bey Mosque in Tirana was built by Molla Bey and his some Haxhi Et'hem Bey in 1789-1823. It survived the destruction of religious structures by the Communist regime in the 1960s due to its status as a cultural monument. Its 35 meter tall minaret was once the tallest building in the city. Apart from the spire, the Mosque has a prayer hall surmounted by a dome, and a portico that surrounds it from east and north. It is noted for its frescoes that depict trees, waterfalls and bridges which are rare in Islamic art. The Clock Tower is part of the same complex.
