Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano, Taormina

The 14th century Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano was originally home to the Spanish aristocratic Spuches family, but today houses the Mazzullo Foundation.

The 14th century Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano was originally home to the Spanish aristocratic Spuches family, but today houses the Mazzullo Foundation. The square building in stone harmoniously merges Sicilian Gothic, Arab and Norman architectural elements. The main facade has Arabic elements such as the lava stone frieze inlaid with rhomboid white Siracusa stone running along the roof. The entrance on the ground floor is through an ogival arch of alternating lava stone and granite voussoirs. The mullioned windows on the first floor are simple, while the second floor has Gothic windows with trefoil arches and a 6 pointed star. There is a small garden in front.
